Avon, Indiana was only incorporated in 1995. This Indianapolis suburb, therefore, has yet to create many famous residents of Avon. There are a few, however, made even more notable because of the lack of a crowd around them.
Famous Avon residents, up to this point in the town’s young life, are listed below, along with a brief bio of each.
|Larry Dixon carved out a lasting niche for himself in the world of drag racing, winning over 40 trophies in national events throughout his 20 years in racing.|
|Chet Fillip is a championship race car driver who won, among other races, the famous Little 500 in 1999 and the Premier Racing Association series in 2006. He also raced in the Indianapolis 500 two times in the 1980’s.|
|Sergio Gomez was the lead singer for K-Paz de la Sierra, a duranguense musical group. This talented singer, nominated posthumously for a Grammy Award, was kidnapped, tortured and murdered in 2007 in a drug-related crime. Sergio Gomez became well known for participating in the creation of musical group K-Paz de la Sierra while he was living and working in Chicago. He spent most of his life, however, in Avon.|
|Steve Talley started off his acting career inside the excellent Avon school system. He had a role in the local production of Inherit the Wind, and the rest, as they say, is history. Regarding his acting career, which to date is topped off by the admittedly silly American Pie Presents: Beta House and American Pie Presents: The Naked Mile, here’s a quote from Steve’s own lips: “It’s my job. I’m a grown man, but I get paid to run around like an idiot.”|
|Bruce Kopp – Bruce Kopp is a morning news anchor for Channel 13 WTHR, an Indianapolis media television station. He’s the voice that starts the day of plenty of Indy residents, and he’s a homegrown Hoosier.|
|Jim Sorgi – The longtime backup quarterback for Indianapolis Colts superstar Peyton Manning, Jim Sorgi is an Avon resident who hasn’t seen much field time in the NFL. Now he plays backup for Peyton’s little brother with the New York Giants.|
|Tom Klein – The Town Manager of Avon, Tom Klein is a graduate of Indiana University in Bloomington. Before being appointed Town Manager in 1998, Klein served as Chief Financial Officer for Public Works in Indianapolis and in the Public Works Department of Bloomington, Indiana.|
