There aren’t many local ice cream shops around and visiting Frost Bite in Avon is a must. Frost Bite is located near the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 36 (Rockville Rd.) and State Rd. 267.
You can’t miss the fun blue and white sign with an ice cream cone on it. For many, the shop may bring back memories of an ice cream shop you visited as a kid. It’s a flash from the past.
What makes Frost Bite stand out from other shops is it’s quality ice cream and friendly service.
Frost Bite is a casual ice cream shop, where you order and pay at the counter and your name is called when the order is ready. The main attraction is their ice cream treats, but you can enjoy dinner too, since they also offer sandwiches (burgers, tenderloin) hot dogs, fries and other appetizers. I haven’t tried any of their food, but will need to do so on a return visit.
We were there for dessert and settled on a kid’s size sundae (with hot fudge and all the toppings) and a cherry soda with vanilla ice cream.
There are many other options, including frosts (ice cream mixed with toppings), sundaes, shakes and malts. I’ve visited Frost Bite a handful of times and the staff is always friendly, helpful and will answer any questions you have about the menu.
Our order was ready within a few minutes and we were ready to dig in. There are plenty of tables in front of the store and behind (There’s no inside seating. There is only outdoor seating, but there is covered seating.)
I like a good hot fudge sundae and this one with tasty, but my favorite dessert we tried was the cherry soda with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream and a cherry on top.
What made this cherry soda a home run was there were bits of real Maraschino cherries mixed in with the ice cream and you could taste them in every bite. I’m already thinking about when I’m going to go back and get another cherry soda!
If you’re short on time, there is a drive-thru to get your treats to go. During our visit, there were several cars waiting at the drive-thru. The line moves quickly and we even saw a few dogs in cars waiting for their treats (They have small cones/cups available for dogs).
We had a fun time at Frost Bite and I recommend it as a must stop when you’re visiting Avon.
