Driving along U.S. 36 (Rockville Rd.) in Avon, you may drive right past Old Bob’s. It’s the store where lawn chairs and mini barns are displayed outside along with Old Bob’s unassuming sign and store front. The next time you’re in Avon, stop at Old Bob’s.
I’m a bird watcher and my main reason for stopping at Old Bob’s was to check out their selection of wild bird seed and feeders. Old Bob’s (named after a brand of bird seed called Old Bob White wild bird feed) is more than it appears.
Inside you’ll find a wide-ranging mix of wild bird seed, feeders, wallpaper and second hand furniture and antiques. It may not seem like it works together, but it does.
I spent a few minutes walking around the store and I was greeted by the owner (Old Bob’s is a family operation- in business since 1975) and shown the selection of bird seed available by the bag or in bulk.
There aren’t many stores where you can buy bird seed in small amounts (in order to try different mixes), so I appreciated this as well as recommendations on what kind of bird seed to buy to attract a few rarely seen birds.
Hummingbird fans out there will be interested in the variety of hummingbird products. You can find hummingbirds in this part of Indiana May through October.
For those planning spring and summer do-it-yourself projects, there is a discounted wallpaper section and antique and second hand furniture for sale at bargain prices.
Old Bob’s is worth a stop for their inexpensive wild bird products, wallpaper, antique and second hand furniture finds.
